Synthesis and Crystal Structure of Binuclear Silver(I) Complex with 8-(2-pyrimidylsulfanylmethyl)quinoline

The reaction of 8-(2-pyrimidylsulfanylmethyl)quinoline(L) with silver hexafluorophosphate yields a twofold-symmetric binuclear complex bisμ-8-(pyrimidin-2-yl-sulfanylmethyl)-quinoline-κ2N,S] bis(acetonitrile)silver(I)]bis(hexafluorophosphate), Ag2(C14H11N3S)2(CH3CN)2](PF6)2 1. The crystal is of tetragonal, space group I4(1)/a, with a=21.255(6), b=21.255(6), c=18.196(11) (A), α=90.00 °, β=90.00 °, γ=90.00 °, C32H28Ag2F12N8P2S2, Mr=1 094.42, V=8 220(6) (A)3, Z=8, Dc= 1.769 g·cm-3, F(000)=4 320, μ=1.223 mm-1, R1=0.064 0 and wR2= 0.218 0. Each AgI atom is coordinated by one N atom and one S atom from one 8-(pyrimidin-2-yl-sulfanylmethyl)quinoline ligand, one N atom from a second 8-(pyrimidin-2- ylsulfanylmethyl)quinoline ligand, and one N atom of CH3CN, in a distorted trigonal pyramidal geometry. The cis-bond angles around the AgI atom range from 89.77(7) ° to 145.33(7) °. Furthermore, Ag-Ag interactions have been observed in the complex.
