摘    要:古典自由主义教育思想的代表,19世纪英国著名教育家纽曼对大学教育的本质、目的、功能等问题进行了深刻的阐释和论证.其中,对自由教育和职业教育关系问题的论述,至今仍具有相当的启示性意义.尽管纽曼的自由教育思想带有一定的时代性和个人的局限性,但其丰富而深刻的思想内涵,使其具有顽强的生命力,仍启迪着今天的高等教育者们.

Abstract:John Henry Newman, the famous educator in England in 19th century as the representative of the classical liberal education thought, made a profound exposition of the essence, objective and function of university's education. Among them, his exposition about the relationship between liberal education and professional education has certain inspiration to us. Although Newman's liberal education thought has some limitation of the times, his profound intention of thought has great vitality and has enlightened our higher educators.
