Abstract:Based on physical model tests and theoretical analysis, this paper has studied the flow structure in a dredged channel with the flow across the trench at an oblique angle to the main flow direction in open water. The regularity of the variation of velocity in the dredged channel is discussed as well. Based on the experimental results, groups of curves such as depth ratio and velocity ratio versus oblique angle and side slope have been plotted to show the variation of volocity in the dredged channel. An empirical formula of depth-averaged velocity is derived by means of dimensional analysis, and at the same time the characteristics of the variation of bottom current velocity are described. Therefore, a basis is provided for estimating the intensity of sediment transport and selecting a proper direction for a dredged channel.
