从符号学的角度,即运用能指、所指、符号三者关系理论分析委婉语,特别是战争委婉语的产生及其发展规律,可以发现委婉语的变化发展充分体现了语言符号性质的矛盾统一,同时发现有关“战争”的委婉语具有鲜明的时代政治性,此外也体现出语言符号作为文化载体的重要性。这对于帮助学习者准确界定词语含义,深入理解文章内容具有一定的指导意义。

The Euphemisms about War Seen from a Semiotic Angle

Based on the semiotic theory related to signifier, signified and signal, this article analyses the origin and the developing tendency of the English euphemisms, especially the euphemisms about war. The analysis turns out to indicate that the development of euphemisms embodies not only the contradictory unity of the characters of linguistic signals, but the important role played by them as a cultural cartier. In particular, the euphemisms about war also manifests the outstanding political characteristics of the time. For language learners, this study would contribute a lot to defining the implied meanings of words and expressions accurately. In this way, it can work as a guideline to understand the deep meanings of the passage.
