| Abstract: | The structure of a composite pontoon bridge which can be opened to navigation transversely is presented. Landing stages and bridge approach are used to connect the bridge itself to the banks on both ends. The bridge is hinged to the landing stages and supported by two bateaux. Vehicles will be driven across the river by the bridge and small boats sail under it. For medium-sized boats, the pontoon bridge has to be opened.The pontoon bridge is of great use and economically advantageous for a river with slow stream and of a width of less than 100 metres, particularly for that with ferry crossing. The construction cost for such a bridge is only 10-20% that with the same span but of concrete structure. |
