| Abstract: | An improved method was achieved on the preparation of the 2-chloromethyl-3 ,4-dime-thoxypyridine hydrochloride. Maltol was by turn methylated, chloridized, oxidated and methoxylated to give the 2-methyl-3 ,4-dimethoxypyridine-N-oxide. The title compound was then obtained easily via chloridizing the 2-hydroxymethyl-3 ,4-dimethoxypyridine, which was obtained by treating the 2-meth-yl-3,4-dimethoxypyridine-N-oxide with acetic anhydride and sodium hydroxide with the overall yield 10.5%. |
