E - mail has been implemented in foreign language learning and teaching for many years. It is widely approved that language learners' communicative competence and intercultural competence can be developed through e - mail interaction in spite of the problems and difficulties existing in the process of designing and carrying out of an e - mail project. It is very common to have a class of 50 or more students in Chinese schools, and teaching a foreign language effectively to a large class is really hard work. In order to change the teacher-centered teaching model into the student-centered one, Teachers should keep students' needs, interests, and learning styles in mind, apply several kinds of teaching techniques, organize different classroom activities and encourage, praise and appreciate both students' success and learning process all the time. If teachers place more responsibility in the hands of students, serve as "presenter or facilitator of knowledge" instead of "source of all knowledge", they can greatly motivate students to learn the language in a very active, cooperative and effective way. 1 IntroductionForeign language teaching generally refers to the theory and practice of teaching a foreign language.It has close connection with linguistics,psychology,education,philosophy,sociology and other disciplines.Since linguistics and foreign language teaching both study language phenomena on the aspects of theory and practice,the two are much closely related to each other.Linguistics is beneficial to language teaching in two aspects: Firstly,applied linguistics extends theoretical linguistics in the direction of language learning and teaching,so that the teacher is enabled to make better decisions on the goal and content of the teaching.Secondly,applied linguistics states the insights and implications that linguistic theories have on the language teaching methodology.Once the goal and content of the teaching are settled,the teacher has to consider questions of how to teach.As an English teacher it really enriches my mind on what to teach and how to teach more effectively.This paper will focus on Sapir-Whorf Hypothesis and its implications on second language teaching.  相似文献

Many people believe that during Mandarin teaching activities, teachers should understand the students' mother tongue, or at least be able to carry out the conversation with students via a kind of media language understood by students. In my opinion, however, this is not a requirement for the classroom teaching of mandarin as a second language. As we all know that English is a tool of communication between Chinese people and the people abroad,it is very important to have good pronunciation in order to communicate effectively. Euphemism,as a linguistic form generated to seek ideal and effective communication, is widely and vividly used in people's daily life, and has become an indispensable part in English language. So it has intrigued linguists and scholars for long time. The researches about this subject cover many different fields, including linguistics, pragmatics, and psychology and so on. However, the researches on its pragmatic application in teachers' language are few. Based on the previous scholars' achievements, its application on teacher's language from the perspective of pragmatic function would be explored in this paper. Nowadays, student-centered teaching is advocated to improve teaching. Applying euphemisms on teaching is a typical embodiment. Teacher's applying euphemisms can shake offthe fright of students in pubhc, protect their self-esteem and stimulate their interest in study. When it is applied to teaching languages appropriately, relaxing and lively atmosphere built in class, students' confidence elevated, their initiative enhanced, good teaching results can be attained.  相似文献

Learning English as a foreign language is a step-by-step process, during which Chinese students will inevitably make some errors. It is important for teachers to know when and how to correct students' errors. By employing error correction skillfully and appropriately, we can develop the students' self-confidence and self-esteem. This paper mainly discusses the interaction and collaboration learning in task-based learning, which has been proved to be scientific and effective, is advocated in English learning and teaching. The role of implicit and explicit learning,depth of processing and elaboration as well as involvement load hypothesis in second language grammatical acquisition were examined in this paper.We conclude that psychologists have associated better learning with depth of processing,or degree of elaboration.The Involvement Load Hypothesis can be conceived as a first attempt to stimulate researchers as well as practitioners to operationalize traditional general labels into task-specific components.  相似文献

The thesis analyzes cognitive mechanism of metaphor at first and finds that metaphor has strong cognitive power and that metaphor cognition has played a significant role in language development. Then the author thinks that language acquisition is also a kind of cognitive activity after discussing acquisition mechanism of English learners. As one of the major factors affecting second language learners' success to their acquisition achievement, motivation has been examined in a wide variety of research papers. It is thus instructive to conduct a critical review of both theoretical and empirical developments in SLA research from over the last few decades. This approach will provide a broad, and integrated perspective onto the current understanding of the complex topic of motivation. Such an undertaking is valuable for teachers, and researchers alike, in developing useful teaching methods, and finding future avenues of SLA motivation research respectively.The following paper provides an overview of recent theoretical and empirical findings, examines some of the problems and contradictions found in current SLA research, and gives an initial departure point for future directions of research in the area of motivation. The paper concludes with a discussion of some of the implications for teachers, and possible classroom strategies that are drawn from the current body of motivation research.  相似文献

Motivation to language learning is a complex set of variables including effort, desire to achieve goals, as well as attitudes toward the learning of the language. Individuals' motivation to second-language learning also includes their motivation orientations, interest in the second language, attitudes toward the second-language group, attitudes toward the second-language learning situations and second-language anxiety. Based on the basic theories and approaches, teaching activities are part of motivation in English classes. The teacher of language should have a good influence on students and develop students' keen interest in study in order to strengthen their intrinsic motivation, and set up some new goals for students to pursue and give the feedback to reinforce their inner drive and confidence.
