| Abstract: | Strains E9 and E14 which are isolated from the Dongshi saltern pool are iden-tified. Both strains possess characters common to Halobacterium, but some othersdifferent from known species of Halobacterium. Neither strain can produce indoleand H_2S. The type of utilization of carbon sources also differs. The two strains E9and E14 differ from each other in their cell size, diameter of colony and capabilityof nitrate reduction. Therefore, strains E9 and E14 are considered as two newspecies and named Halobacterium dongshiensis sp. nov. (E9) and Halobacterium jin-jiangensis sp. nov. (E14) respectively. |
