FROM SEQUENCE STRATIGRAPHY TO HIGH RESOLUTION SEQUENCE STRATIGRAPHY

Sequence stratigraphy has gone through three developmental stages: early stage, seismic stratigraphy and modern sequence stratigraphy. It has gained many achievements and been widely used in oil and gas exploration and exploitation. Nevertheless, the classical sequence stratigraphy faces some problems and challenges. It has developed in several directions in recent years, with the high resolution sequence stratigraphy being the most important one. The key terms of the high resolution sequence stratigraphy include base level cycle, accommodation, sediment volume partitioning, cycle symmetries, facies diversity, sequence structure and stacking pattern. The high resolution sequence stratigraphy has developed quickly since its birth and will have a bright future.
