Abstract:With the decreasing in price and improving in performance and reliability of PC, the functions of graphics and network of the real-time operating system are becoming more and more important to industry control. The operating system not only provides all the functions of general operating system, but guarantees the response times. Linux is free and provides source code, which greatly simplifies our development of real-time operating system. This paper firstly discusses the differences between the real-time operating system and general operating system, then presents the methods which transforms Linux into a real-time system, including interrupt emulation, real-time scheduling and so on. Finally, we introduce how to develop real-time tasks in the real-time Linux environment.1fig.,7refs.
