On the Role of Physical Education at the School Level

Based on a through survey of the related literature, the paper makes a tentative probe into the role of physical education at the school level. And physical education is not simply part of curricular design for the promotion of the students' physical build-up, but a channel for the cultivations of intelligence, enthusiasm and disposition as well. The view-points held by the predecessors help much to establish modern idea upon physical education and consolidate the theoretical base for the publi- cation of "Health is of the first importance".
