Abstract:The influence of the geometric size of permanent magnets on pipeline magnetization in magnetic circuit design was analyzed using the finite element method. The flux leakage B x due to a pipeline defect (0.2mm depth, 0.2mm width) was calculated for various permanent magnet lengths (10~40mm) and diameters (25~100mm). Correlation curves are given for the magnetic flux leakage along with the length and polar area of magnet. The result can be used in magnetic circuit design for improving testing sensitivity and for providing a method for optimizing the magnetization design in magnetic flux leakage testing.
