| Abstract: | Six unreported rare earth 3-methylphenyl compounds, which are very sensitive to air and moisture, have been synthesized via the reaction of anhydrous lanthanide chloride with 3-methylphenyllithium in benzene solution. The composition of these compounds have been determined to be Ln (C_6H_4CH_3-3)_3 (Ln=Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm, Ho) and Gd (C_6H_4CH_3-3)_2Cl after examination through elemental analysis, infrared spectra and mass spectra. |
