| Abstract: | Sarah Orne Jewett is reputed as New England's best writer in the literature indigenous American literature. "A White Heron" is one of her best short stories, in which she gave the common names for some of the characters and other things, skillfully providing them a more profound symbolic meaning in special contexts, thus enhancing its expressive and infectious force and readability as well. |
