Model Study for Regulating Wullangzhou Goose-Head-Shaped Braided Reaches

This paper presents an experimental study of Wuliangzhou goose-head-shaped-braided reaches with fixed and movable bed model for the middle reaches of Haujiang River near Xiangfan City. The study indicates that the key to regulating such braided reaches for navigation is to protect the upper part of the island from erosion. The model test shows that regulating the regime of the upstream river flow of the braided channels or building a single spur dike in the straight channel only has a little effect on the diversion ratio of the braided channels.
