英译汉中的成语之忌

翻译作为一种文化交流,受原语文化与译入语文化的制约。由于英汉民族文化的差异,仅有一小部分成语在英文中有相对的意象。大部分四字成语蕴涵浓厚的中国文化意象,英译汉时若使用这些成语,便在译文中掺入与添加了译语文化意象,造成文化失真。因此,译者应慎用成语,灵活变换表达法,使文化信息得以准确传递。

Caution Against Use of Strong-colored Chinese Idioms in E-C Translation

As an act of communication in a cross-cultural context, translation is restricted by both source culture and target culture. Due to the differences between two cultures, only a small number of Chinese idioms have equivalent images in English, while most four-character idioms contain strong-colored Chinese culture images. If these idioms appear in E-C translation, cultural distortion may occur. Hence, translators should be cautious in using idioms to avoid misunderstanding.
