Abstract:Summary The low mol. wt extracellular esterase ofCandida lipolytica is actively transported into membrane vesicles. In the absence of metabolic energy, a proton gradient can drive the transport process. The transport system does not accumulate the enzyme at peak levels due to the presence of a leak pathway.
