| Abstract: | The hydraulic uncertainties and their effects on the risk analysis of levee or spillway systems are systematically investigated in this paper. The results show that the risk evaluated by considering only hydrologic factors can be underestimated and the effects of hydraulic uncertainties on the overall risk depend on the coefficient of variation of the hydraulic variable. The research also indicates that the hydrologic risk is a major contributing factor to the overall risk and the direct integration is an applicable and reliable method for evaluating the overall risk in the case where the variation of hydraulic variable is much smaller than that of hydrologic variable. |
