| Abstract: | Idioms are the essence of a language, and reflect the fruits of people＇ s living and working experience with their own characteristic cultural background . This paper compares and analyzes the similarities and differences of folk custom meanings between Chinese and English idioms, and exhibits the common and unique characteristics of both English and Chinese as well as the communication and blending of the two cultures. This can have influence on our probing into the relationship between social culture and language, and also give certain help to English learning and study. |
