On the Associative Meanings of the Color Term ＂Yellow＂ In English and Chinese Language from Cognitive Aspect

When people gain a better perception of the color terms, they add some associative meanings to them, which leads to the extension of word meanings. The enlarged meanings of the color term ＂yellow＂ are associated with how people perceive the color sources. This paper at- tempts to discuss the similarities and differences between the color term ＂yellow＂ in English and Chinese language, and explore the factors which affect people＇s cognition of the term, aiming to enable people to have a better and comprehensive understanding of the meanings of ＂yellow＂ in both languages and avoid barriers in cross -cultural communication.
