Expert System Shell for Structural Design of Mid-Ship Section

Combining expertise with the requirement of ship society's rules is one of the most popular methods for structural design of the mid-ship seCtion. In order to improve design proficiency, to save design fee, and to make full use of the expertise of ship structural design, it is necessary to develop an expert system. Different ship types demand different design expertise and ship society's rules, but the objects, i. e., the structural elements, and the main design procedures are the same. Therefore, a way to develop an expert system shell, which provides various ready-made knowledge representation methods, design procedures and some auxiliary routines for structural design of the mid-ship section is presented in this paper. With this shell, different expert systems for the structural design of different mid-ship sections can be rapidly and efficiently developed.
