Primary Study on Metaphorical Competence in Foreign Language Learning

Metaphorical Competence refers to the ability to understand, interpret and create metaphors. It is categorized as language competence by domestic researches for the sophisticated cognitive mechanism involved in it and the important role it plays in understanding and using language. This paper begins with a discussion about its definition and probes further into its correlation with foreign language learning. Suggestions are given on how to cultivate Chinese English learners Metaphorical Competence.
