| Abstract: | In river channel regulating engineering, some success has been achieved in the application of hook groynes. Based on flume tests, theoretical formula is derived for calculating the length of backward flow, which is affected by the turning angle and the projection length, and the interaction between two hook groynes located at opposite bank is analyzed. By introducing the term of dynamic pressure and using Karman's theory, a formula is developed for calculating the proper distance between the groynes. The calculated results are in good agreement with experimental data. |
