ERT-VR: Virtual Simulation System for Training Earthquake Rescuers

ERT-VR is composed of the commander training subsystem and the team training subsystem. In the commander training subsystem, the display system based on stereoscopic projectors is used to train the emergency rescue commanders. In the team training subsystem, the members of the operational teams use the head-mounted displays and datagloves as the interactive devices. A 3D scenario creator was designed and implemented in ERT-VR. Instructors assigned a specific training scenario to the trainees by using the scenario creator. Trainees took on the role of the characters in the training scenario and controlled their actions and ultimately the scenario outcomes. All the actions were recorded into the database system and could be replayed and evaluated. The components, architecture, run process and run samples of ERT- VR were proposed.
