Abstract:Vecalization elicited by electrical stimulation in the midbrain of quails were studied in connection with breathing rates.Most of the sites where sound production chould be elicited were found in the mucleus dorsomedialis intercollicularis and formatio reticularis lateralis mesencephal- i.Vocalization were accompanied by autonomic and somatic motor reactions.Respiratory areas is much larger than vocal control areas.All vocalizations were accompanied by an increase of br- wathing rates. Midbrain of birds may be the basic vocal control centre and higher respiratory regulation cen- tre.It plays an important role in intergrating the connections between vocal control and respirato- ry pathway.
