东方文化价值观对英语情态动词使用的影响

为研究不同社会文化观念对英语情态动词使用的影响，作者以亚洲留美学生（英语为非母语者）和美国本上学生（英语为母语者）相同主题的作文为对照组，分析了两者在使用表示“义务”、“必须”的情态动词时的异同。结果发现，东方文化价值观对英语情态动词的使用有着明显的影响。

Influence of oriental cultural walues on the use of English model verbs

English modal verbs of obligation and necessity must, have to, should, ought to, and of English have difficulty with these modal verbs and may use them in improper ways and situations. Researchers indicate that the reason why English modal verbs can be difficult for non-native speakers of English is that they often translate modal verbs from their own lan-guage into English without considering different contextual implications of these modals. And the study results indicate that oriental cultural values do have influence on the use of English modal verbs.
