Selectivities of Organic Ion-Selective Electrodes Toward Quaternary Ammoniums

Electrode selectivities toward quaternary ammoniums are controlled by the ability of the cation to be extracted into the membrane phase. We has proved in this paper theoretically that logK_(ij) can be expressed as function of alkyl chain length of quaternary ammonium,but the relationship is not linear. A theoretical relationship has been suggested and proved experimentally by using five electrodes of different kinds. Extraction, elastic radius of the quaternary ammonium and iuductivity effect are considered as the main factors which affect the electrode selectivity.
