Abstract:A rare mantis insect collected from the Maolan Karst Preserve,Guzhou Province, belong to the genus Acromantis Saussure of family Hymenopodidae (Mantodea).It is a new species and described herein,the type specimens kept in the Insect Collections of Beijing Agricultural University. Acromantis magna Yang,sp.nov.(Fig.1)Holotype (?),Guizhou Prov.: Libo county,Maolan,Limenguan (108.01E,25.13N),May 14,1990 collected by the author. A paratype as the holotype,but in damage and without abdomen.Female: length of body 34 mm, reaching tip of wings 36mm;length of pronotum 9mm,and greatest width 3.5mm;length of tegmen 22mm,greatest width 6.5mm;length of fore femur 8.5mm, width 2.5mm.This is the largest species of this genus, similar to the A.dyaka Hebard by the robust form, and the castal marginal field of tegmen very broad and opaque in green color, which of the distal third suddenly narrowing, and also similar by the hindwing with anterior field sharply truncate. But the new species distinguished from the latter species not only the larger size (body length of A.dyaka only 28.5mm) and distinct differs by the pronotum comparative long and narrow (which in A.dyaka 19mm long and 7mm wide),the lateral margin of pronotum with many short blund teeth (which in A.dyaka longer and fewer in number). The ventral lob of the middle and hind femora comparative smaller and pointed (not so larger and round as in A.dyaka). Otherwise,some other characters also can be separat the two relative species.
