Relation Between Crystal Structure and Liquid Crystallinity of Ferrocene Derivatives

摘    要:1 Results In order to obtain liquid crystals including an ion atom as a transition metal, the ferrocene derivatives containing mesogenic group were designed with a view to prevent great bulk of ferrocenyl moiety in the molecules, because rod-like molecular shape is preferable to show liquid crystallinity. Therefore, methylene chain was installed as a flexible spacer between ferocenyl moiety and mesogenic one. As a result, a lot of liquid crystalline ferrocene derivatives were synthesized successfully. Single crystal X-ray structure analyses were carried out using these derivatives, and the results were considered from a viewpoint of a relation of crystal structure and liquid crystallinity.
