Abstract:Snap-action two way shape memory effect in Cu alloy can be obtained byusing the design previously proposed by the authors.The essential characteris-tics of effect are that the starting temperature of martensitic phase transfor-mation equals almost that of the finishing temperature and that the hysteresisis a rectangle. The measurements of electric resistivity in situ and X-raydiffraction show that the snap-acting two way shape memory effect originatesfrom the snap-acting martensitic phase transformation. The described fun-damental and the experimental method should be applicable to all shape memory alloys.
