Research of vital building structures

Vital building, a recently developed cross new research subject at home and abroad, is based on the intelligent material system and structure which includes sensing, signal disposal, controlling and executing element and so on. At the same time, it is guided by the bionics, artificial intelligence and system control, thus taking effort to make the traditional building structure living. It wants to make building sensing the change of internal state of the structure and external environment by the way of living being, then it can judge and make a response correctly by itself in time, and carry on self repair and self protection fully, so that the damage of the building resulting from the natural calamity can be decreased by maximum extent. It develops the traditional building from non changeable,non intellective, non vital to changeable ,intellective and vital, so it produces tremendous influence on science and has wide promising engineering utilization. A brief introduction to the concept of vital building and its connotation is put forward in the beginning. The fundamental principle of vital building and its application in engineering, which is the focus of present research and application on vital building, are discussed in detail.
