On Semantic Roles within English Compounds:From the Perspective of the Frame Semantics Theory

It has forged a common ground that it is difficult to generalize the semantic roles within English compounds.This paper,from the perspective of the Frame Semantics Theory,provides a measured generalization of semantics roles within English compounds,and examines both the event frames and the frame elements that generally have an effect upon the prominence of semantics roles.Thus,it is found that the prominence of semantic roles results from the way in which the core frame elements and the non-core frame elements within English compounds are interrelated,and the cognitive motivations for prominence of semantic roles within English compounds rest with whether the frame elements within English compounds can be perspectivized or not,and the way they are perspectivized.
