Cultivating the Undergraduate Scientific Research in First-class Undergraduate Education:Inspiration from University of California,Irvine

The undergraduate scientific research training program is an effective way to promote the organic combination of teaching and scientific research.It is of great significance to cultivate the undergraduates with innovative consciousness and ability.It is highly consistent with the training objectives of first-class undergraduate education and an important way to build the first-class undergraduate education.UCI attaches great importance to the undergraduate scientific research and has achieved remarkable results in promoting undergraduate scientific research.Its successful experience can be summarized as follows:the multi-channel project sources improves the undergraduate scientific research participation;the three-dimensional process management ensures the undergraduate scientific research effectiveness;the cross(multi)disciplinary research enhances the innovative ability of undergraduate students;all-round incentive measures benign the interaction between the teachers and students;and the concept of globalization expands the internationalization horizon of undergraduate students.Based on the successful experiences of the scientific research work of undergraduates at UCI,Chinese universities should constantly adhere to the educational concept of student development as the core in the process of building first-class undergraduate education,regard undergraduate scientific research as an important carrier of cultivating students innovative ability,construct the process management in line with the actual situation of the university,broaden the sources of project funds and set up the undergraduate scientific research which integrates diversification and interdisciplinary,provide the students with innovative growth experience,diversify the academic experience and forward-looking in-depth learning in order to achieve the goal of cultivating students’innovative and entrepreneurial ability.
