Equation and Solution for LAN Protocol Analysis

Based on set theory, several concepts are introduced to express a structure of three mappings, which is suggested to be an abstraction of the environment of a LAN protocol. Unlike conventional probabilistic models, the analytical methodology proposed can describe directly the time relations in the protocol between concerned objects, each of which is denoted by a set of all the time instants at which the object can be seen. The mathematical equation consisting of these time instant sets formulates the mechanism and details of the protocol while its solution presents complete analytical foundation for the protocol performance and simulation. As an example, CSAM/GD is formalized to be a group of readable mathematical equations and a precise simulation model.
