Invariants of the Stress Tensor and Theories of Failure

There are some reasonable connotations in the present theories of failure. And the applications of these theories to practice are very fruitful. In this paper, from the view of invariants of the stress tensor, some questions about the shortcomings or defects of the present theories of failure are raised. According to the theory of invariants of the stress tensor and inductive method, a unified theory of failure is possible. With the deepening of the struggle between mankind and nature, it can predict that the necessity of unifying the theories of failure is urgent day by day. Finally, it gives the practical applications for this theory and the comparison between this theory and the present theories.
