| Abstract: | E.L.Doctorow,a postmodernist novelist,shows the American social background in the mid of 1960's through Daniels' perspective and discussion in The Book of Daniel,which deeply exposed individual's tragedy:the enemy of humans is not from bad or evil person but from self's alienation.This article will adopt the three basic principles of Satrean existen- tialism(the existence,the choice of freedom and the responsibilities of freedom)to analyze Daniel's five identities and the ex- istentialist thought involved in The Book of Daniel. |
