唐代西南边“西山八国”同唐朝的关系

唐代西南边的八个羌人小国总称西山八国,因其部落酋长从唐初就接受了唐朝的官职封号,实际上接受了唐朝的羁縻或统治;由于其地势在唐朝与吐蕃的关系中甚为重要,在广德元年相继被吐蕃攻占后,唐朝在贞元年间收复失地,西山八国因而率其部众内附,重新接受唐朝的羁縻,唐代史籍中开始出现西山八国的称谓;唐朝自贞元年间始置＂西山八国安抚使＂,说明唐朝对西山八国地势的重视;而吐蕃要进攻唐剑南西川或维持对南诏的控制,故尔屡次同唐朝发生对西山八国的争夺战。

On the Relationship of Southwest Tang "Western Hill Eight Countries" and Tang Dynasty

The western hill eight countries in southwest of Tang Dynasty were conferred the official title by Tang Dynasty,accepting its rule.Because of their important role in the relationship between Tang Dynasty and Tibet,they were occupied one after another by Tibet in Guangdei period and reclaimed by Tang Dynasty in Zhenguan period and re-accepted its rule.The name of western hill eight countries appeared in Tang historical records since then.Since Zhenguan period those counties were conferred the official title ＂An Fu Shi＂.However,Tibet wanted to control Nanzhao and to aggress west Sichuan,so many times it fought with Tang Dynasty for the rule of western hill eight countries.
