System complexity and the design of decision support systems

The design of Decision Support Systems (DSS) has become an increasingly complex task, so much so that further significant advances in DSS applications may well require a deeper understanding of the nature of system complexity itself. This paper explores the concept of system complexity and its impact on DSS design from a critical systems perspective angle. Ways of consolidating the various DSS concepts are presented which should lead to more creative and more comprehensive DSS applications.
