Abstract:A problem of the sterilization og Bacillus subtilis by highelectrostatic voltage of application under room temperature in air has been studied by experiment in this pa- per. Two kinds of Bacillus subtilis are tested in the experiment, one is the younger Bacil- lus subtilis (incubated for 4 hours so no brood is generated), the other is the older ones (incubated for 62 hours and generating a lot of brood). The Influence of the different electrode geometries and waveforms on sterilization effect has been analysed. We ob- tained the relations among survival rate of Bacillus subtilis and electric field strengh, corona power, treatment time. The sterilization mechanism of destroying Bacillus subtilis by high electrostatic voltage has been discussed. The experimental results indicate that Bacillus subtilis can be killed by corona discharge field. Electrostatic sterilization is a novel technique, particularly, no paper describing the sterilization in non-liquid by elec- trostatic method has been reported up to now. lt may be a new kind of sterilization method.
