Abstract:The evolution pattern of clay minerals a granite weathered residual kaolin deposit in low temperature geochemical enviroment has been aseertained through X-ray, DTA and electron microscopic studies. Highly disordered kaoli- nite is hydrated and turned into new phase of 10A halloysite under strong hyd- ration, Whilb, bilotite is turned into hydrobiotite. The process of leaching ex - ceeds hydration as weathering intensifies .With the wash away of base, the solu - tion becomes weak acidic, and solid tubes of 10A halloysite turn into hollown tubes of 7 A halloysite of 1: 1 type. Under intensified hydration and oxidation in the high stage of weathering, hollow tubes of 7 A halloysite unfold into flakes of ordered kaolinite, thus forming the end-product of kaolin weathered crust.
