| Abstract: | English idiom is a special kind of language phenomenon and has its own characteristics.In learning English idioms we shouldn't infer its meaning by the literal meaning of its constituents nor should we adopt analogy with Chinese.It's a good way to look them up in dictionary. Association can help us find the motivation between the integral meaning of an idiom and the lexical meaning of its parts. Besides we should be clear about the grammatrcal function of an idiom. |
