进入２１世纪，珠江三角洲将成为亚太地区经济发展的一大热点，随之而来的交通运输与经济迅速发展的矛盾将日益突出．本文中，对珠江三角洲的社会经济发展、城镇发展和综合运输体系等因素与公路运输之间的关系进行了分析，指出了珠江三角洲公路网发展的方向和前景，揭示了公路网络在区域中的地位和作用，形成了对该区域公路网建设的整体认识．提出了建立四纵四横二环公路网的发展模式，确定了公路网的发展目标，为政府部门的决策提供参考的依据

A Highway Network Strategy for The Pearl River Delta in 21st Century

In the 21st century, the Pearl River Delta(PRD) will become an increasingly important economic center in Asian Pacific Rim region. The transportation problems, accompanying economic developments, will be a matter of great urgency in the region. Analysis was made to the relations between those factors such as social economic development, development in cities and towns, the complex teansportation system and the highway transportation in the PRD. The directions and prospects of the highway network development in the PRD were showed. The rotes of the highway network in the area was also pointed out. A full understanding of the highway construction was formed. Finally, a highway network design of four south-north passage, four east-west passage, two ring roads was put forward, together with a development aim in the PRD. This emphasizes the pressing need for the denvelopment and adoption of a highway network planning strategy for the PRD in the 21st century
