A vertical handoff decision mechanism based on context awareness

As the factors increase, it becomes more complex when making vertical handoff decision. To solve the problem, a handoff model based on context awareness was proposed which contains the process of handoff initiation, network filtering and network selection. By introducing the network filtering, all accessible networks were filtered by certain criterion and eventually helped to optimize the selection of alternative network or criterion needed in the network. This mechanism enabled a more flexible and effective network selection strategy, which helped to locate the target network quickly. This mechanism was proved to have performance advantage in the following analysis of application case.
