MARKET ECONOMY, SOCIAL EXISTENCE AND SOCIAL CONSCIOUSNESS

In this paper, the author, firstly, analyzes Karl Marx's basic concepts of Social Existence, Civil Society and Social Consciousness; secondly, the author studies the historical formative processes of the notions like Country and Society, Country Consciousness and Social Consciousness, pointing out the vast differences between them; thirdly, the author thinks, in China, the concepts of "Country"and"Country Consciousness" have long been much more highly regarded than the notions of "Society" and "Social Consciousness" yet, to modernize China, we should attach much importance to the ideas of "Society" and "Social Consciousness". Now, the Market Economy mechanism is offering the realistic possibility, necessity and urgency to help implant these ideas into Chinese minds. On the other hand, the orthodox "Country Consciousness" is being endangered, not by "Social Consciousness" , but, sadly, by "Anti -Society Consciousness". Therefore, the author concludes, it is critically significant and urgent to establish the images of "Social Hosts" among the common Chinese individuals, so as to turn the present Chinese to be modern human beings who are appealing for the modernization of China.
