Abstract:When the quality factor (Q) of an antenna is far greater than 1, the sensi- tivity of the antenna itself becomes unrelated to its Q value. As a result, high density material with low Q value may be used for the manufacture of antenna so as to improve the antenna sensitivity or to reduce its size to economize on the expensive liquid helium required. By raising the carrier frequency for the antenna signal with superconduc- tive mutual inductance transducer and interposing, between the transducer and the DC SQUID, a high Q superconductive LC resonant circuit, it is possible to improve the channel transfer function and to realize the single sideband recep- tion, so that the sensitivity of the detector may approach that of the antenna and its resistance to disturbance may be increased. Substitution of a noncorrelation reception circuit for a correlation one may counter the influence of carrier frequency shift and help to bring about a major reduction of the cost.
