The Larvae of Branchiostoma belcheri Discovered in the Luoyuan Bay of Fujian Province

Amphioxus is a kind of rare seafood and a good meterial for teachinc and research as well. During their investigation of zoopankton in Luoyuan Bay from Nov. 1986 to Oct. 1987,the authors discovered the larvae of Amphioxus for the first time. They are now officially determined as the larve a of Brachiosto-ma bilcheri (Gray). They appeared in the sample of medium sized net of plan-kton collected from bottom to surface in Jul. and Sept. 1987. Altogether 99 were collected with their body length ranging between 3.3 and 6.2 mm most of them were 4 mm in length. In July 15 were collected from the four stations (8601, 8602, 8604, 8608) of the eight in Luoyuan Bay (Fig.1). In Sept. 84 were obtained from the five stations (8601, 8602, 8603, 8604, 8606).It is estimated that the area of Luoyuan Bay and adjacent sea abounds in Branchiostoma belckeri Gray.
