Abstract:A methodology for predicting the elastic properties of the 4-step three-dimensional braid composite was described. A micromechanics model of the composite was proposed and analyzed by using the strain energy equivalency principle with the aid of the finite element method. Expressions for elastic module and Poisson's ratios have been derived as functions of variables such as elastic properties of fiber and matrix ,fiber volume fractions , angle of braided yarn to braid axis .Comparisons between theoretical predictions and experimental data were also presented. 4figs,. 1tab,. 8refs.
