中国古诗英译中的时态选择

鉴于英汉两种语言在时态运用上的差异以及时态对于英文的重要性,中国古诗英译过程中,译者不可避免地要进行时态的选择。对于隐含时间变化、追昔抚今的古诗,译者可依据原诗中的时间指示选择时态;若古诗中动作发生的时间与情境不明确,译者可依据译诗意境选择时态;对于隐含引述成分的古诗,译者可根据翻译文风与译诗意境在直接引语和间接引语之间作出选择,并选择相应的时态进行翻译。

On the Choice of Tense in Translating Ancient Chinese Poems into English

Considering the differences between Chinese and English languages on tense as well as the importance of tense in English language,it is necessary for translators to choose verb tense while translating ancient Chinese poems into English.For ancient Chinese poems that imply change of time or recall the past in the light of the present,the translator could choose tense according to the time signals implied in the original poems.If time and context concerning action are not definite in the ancient Chinese poems,the translator could choose tense in line with the artistic conception of the translated version.For the quoted speech implied in the ancient Chinese poems,the translator could make a choice between direct speech and indirect speech in accordance with the translator＇s translating style and the artistic conception of the translated version,and choose the corresponding tense.
