Female Gender Image Construction from Various Perspectives: On Maria Egdeworth's Belinda

Like other women writers,Maria Edgeworth＇s works have been neglected in the history of patriarchal culture.Belinda,one of her masterpieces,narrates the image construction development which Belinda underwent in her pursuit of marital happiness in London society.This novel displays female image construction of four different types：shrew, radical feminist,angel and doll.Through summarizing the four types of female images,Edgeworth constructs Belinda as an independent and sensible female and accordingly highlights her own view upon the female gender image construction.
