Abstract:The kinetics and mechanism of photopolymerization of methyl methacrylate ini-tiated by fluorenone-aniline system was studied under the irradiation at 365 nm.In high absorbance systems the rate of polymerization decreases and the molecularweight of the polymer increases. The molecular weight distribution becomes wideras the absobance increases. With the combination of spin trapping reagents andESR the aniline radical produced in the initiation process has been detected. Theanalysis of fluorescence spectra of the polymers shows that this radical is respon-sible for the initiation. The influence of the solvent polarity was also discussed.
